with the german foreign minister and chancellor angela merkel, we heard a lot of talk about that possible free-trade agreement between the eu and the u.s. we heard john kerry in your report just they're talking about jobs, jobs, jobs. there appears to be a great deal of economic pressure on both sides of the atlantic driving some motivation toward a possible free trade deal, but again, there were other foreign policy issues, including afghanistan and, particularly, syria on the agenda. >> what about this free trade deal? >> there is talk right now of actually getting negotiations going formally sometime this coming summer. within two years, that is the time frame they are talking about, officials right now, of having some sort of deal in place, but there are huge hurdles on the way. there's been talk of a free- trade agreement for a long time. many people thought it would be dead. it appears to be revived with great economic pressure to get it going. >> thank you very much for that. >> last year, the white house announced a big strategic shift, what it calls it pivot to asia, as a response to

me now is richard wolffe and angela. thank you both for coming on the show tonight. >> thank you. >> it's a hard sell but republicans seem to crumble on a bunch of these issues. what's going on? >> they are picking fights they cannot win. they are picking fights about defense secretary who is always going to have enough votes. yes, they mess around with him. he was always going to get confirmed. it's a bit like the sequester. they have to cave. the pressure is too intense watching this unfold. medicaid dollars, really, are you going to have governors with the supreme court saying you have a choice. governors are going to turn down dollars that make them more popular. they are not picking smart fights here. that leads to a bigger question. will they ever break out of what bobby jindal call the stupid party? that's the thing they are facing right now. >> angela, you work the hill. you know it better than most people in this town. you were there in 2010 when the tea party movement was at its height and had a lot of strength. salon says that not only do the republicans seem to be cav

's investment ideas. good morning. it's february 27th. i'm angela miles. in today's first look: the market roars back. despite wavering reports about italy's election, a strong sign the fed will continue quantative easing pushed the dow to a triple-digit gain. the nasdaq and s&p 500 also moved higher. gold continues to gather upside momentum, while oil is still falling. priceline and first solar could be major movers today. in earnings after the close, priceline shares shot up 27 dollars on positive profits while first solar fell 5% on its forecast. and the blackberry z10 smartphone is turning into a good call. blackberry is signaling new customers are signing on to buy the new phone. larry shover of sfg alternatives is with us on this morning to take a look at the markets. good to have you on the show, and what matters most to the market here, larry - what is happening with italy or comments from fed chair ben bernanke? > > right now i think it is more about bernanke. we saw that yesterday with that bounce- back rally. it seems like the market seems to be looking around italy knowing it's going

's agenda. he met angela merkel in berlin on tuesday. he is now in paris where he is due to hold talks with french president francois hollande. >> the u.s. secretary of state and his french counterpart will give a news conference a little later. we expect them to stand shoulder to shoulder on the issue of mali. the u.s. has backed the intervention in mali and has offered logistical support to french troops. a reminder of just how precarious the situation is in moly with this car bombing which is reported to have killed seven people. what everybody is more interested in hearing about today is what the two men will set on syria. there are reports that the u.s. is going to shift its policy slightly to an offer direct assistance to the syrian opposition. we will have to wait and see what happens in that news conference. france and the u.s. had a good relationship. the relationship nosedived after the 2003 invasion of iraq, but they seem to be getting back on track. they certainly seem to be singing from the same song book on the issues of mali and syria. >> barack obama is calling for both

and privilege to serve the residents and to work with everybody there. to angela and your tremendous staff, thank you so much for all of your work in supporting us. we couldn't do what we do without you. and i think some of your clerks are the most amazing clerks that really help us stay on task. i really appreciate all of that work. there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes. to, of course, harvey, carol adams who was with us before, john who is with us now, thank you. you guys have to sit there all of our meetings. and, so, give us advice even when we may not want it. so, thank you. and, of course, to each and every one of you here on the board, i can't tell you how much i've grown as a direct result of working with all of you and learning from you and just building friendships and relationships over the years. it's really been a tremendous experience and i know that we'll continue to do that in my new role. i do have to give a special shout out to sean. when i first came on the board as a supervisor, he really helped to carry me through and really helped to advise me and help
